Europe-wide university ranking places Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz among the top five German universities and in an overall 21st place in Europe

The Europe-wide Reuters Top 100 – Europe's Most Innovative Universities 2018 ranking positions Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) among the best five universities in Germany. In the national comparison, JGU ranks in 5th place of the total of 23 rated German universities while it is in 21st place and thus among the top 25 percent in the overall European comparison. In comparison with last year's ranking, Mainz University has been able to improve its national standing by three places and its European standing even by seven places.
The Reuters Top 100 – Europe's Most Innovative Universities ranks the educational institutions doing the most to advance science, invent new technologies, and power new markets and industries in Europe. It is issued by the media concern Thomson Reuters. The ranking is primarily based on proprietary data and analysis of patent fillings and research paper citations. Here, JGU is particularly well represented in the fields of Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Medical Devices & Healthcare as well as Chemicals.
