7 February 2024
Since December 2023, the Center for Lifelong Learning at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) has been coordinating the new "AI in ADU" project financed by the European Commission. Over the course of 30 months, the project is to develop personalized, AI-based learning experiences for adult learners. The project will familiarize teachers with the advantages of AI-supported learning and encourage them to create more engaging and interactive learning experiences by using AI technologies such as speech recognition, machine translation, and natural language processing. However, there will also be a critical discussion concerning the challenges and limitations of AI technologies. The objective is to create interactive and adaptive educational experiences that are tailored to the needs and learning objectives of the individual learner. This should improve the motivation, performance, and learning outcomes of participants, ensure enhanced access to education and self-learning opportunities by promoting critical language skills.
With its expertise in the field of digital learning, the JGU Center for Lifelong Learning will provide important input with regard to the teaching of modern foreign languages. In addition to Mainz University, the other partners participating in the project are PRISM (Italy), the One World – One Heart Foundation (Poland), the PELICAN language school (Czech Republic), Emphasys (Cyprus), and Bahcesehir University (Turkey).
The "AI in ADU" project will run from December 2023 to May 2026 under the aegis of the JGU Center for Lifelong Learning.
