24 September 2021
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) has achieved excellent ranking positions in several areas in this year's U-Multirank. This applies to the university as a whole as well as to the individual subjects assessed.
JGU has been placed among the top group of participating universities in nine key indicators in the dimensions of research, knowledge transfer, and international orientation. The university is among the leading international group of universities in the number of research publications and most frequently cited publications. In the area of knowledge transfer, Mainz University consistently achieves very high scores for patents and is in the top group in all key indicators analyzed. JGU is also ranked among the best globally in terms of international orientation both when it comes to the percentage of its international researchers and the involvement of JGU researchers in international research publications.
At the subject level, Medicine and Dentistry achieved outstanding results. Both subjects achieved excellent placings in individual indicators, especially in the field of knowledge transfer. Both are placed among the leading international group in the knowledge transfer category in terms of the indicators "Co-publications with industrial partners" and "Publications cited in patents" as well as with regard to the amount of third-party funding raised.
The U-Multirank international university ranking was developed by a consortium of European higher education and research institutions. JGU's performance was assessed in the 2021 rankings both as a university as a whole and with regard to the subjects Medicine and Dentistry. The core feature of U-Multirank is that it does not publish standard ranking lists but instead assigns universities to one of five ranking groups for each key indicator.
